Firstly I would like to thank all the members of the Indian Association of Clinical Medicine from the core of my heart for electing me to the prestigious post of the President, IACM. IACM is a unique association of internists founded in 1992 with the prime objective of keeping the art and science of clinical medicine alive in this era of high-tech and AI based medical approach. The evolution of subspecialities, galloping cost of unjustified investigations and prohibitively expensive therapeutics have made the job of a clinician all the more difficult and demanding. Rising violence against healthcare professionals and medico legal issues have further compounded the problem.
I firmly believe that this country needs fully trained internists who bear the brunt of most of the diseases. It’s time to go back to the basics and reclaim the image of messiah who is willing to listen patiently and offer the healing touch to the suffering humanity.
I look forward to your suggestions to improve the functioning of the association and take it to greater heights.
